The quickest way to frustrate an audience

Have you ever sat in a lecture and wondered, “What is he/she talking about?”, or “What am I supposed to do with this information?”  There is almost nothing more frustrating than not knowing where someone is going with their topic because we don’t know what’s important or what we are supposed to be remembering.

What if you started out your next talk with this sentence,
“My goal for you today is to __________.”

And the blank should be one of 4 phrases (in your own words).

  • Appreciate the value of xyz system or solution
  • Be inspired to do greater things
  • Learn how to do xyz
  • Understand xyz information and how to use it

How might that change the audience’s experience?
