The (Not So) Secret Way To Tell a Data Story

In my last blog, “Show me the Data,” we talked about the importance of humanizing data and information by packaging it in a visual way. Charts, timelines, geo-maps and concept maps are all great ways to visualize data however, you can take it to the next level.

Data by itself is hard to digest, even if we do a good job of creating visual displays.  What we need is a way to tell a story.  And Infographics helps us do just that!

What Is an Infographic?

Infographics are the best of both worlds because you can incorporate both pictures and words. They simplify complex ideas and concepts and make content memorable for your audience.

Advantages of Infographics

  • Attention Grabbing- you have to get people to your content first before they can consume it. Infographics are a perfect way to do that.
  • Tells a Story- Infographics have an added layer, they help your content tell a story which helps your audience retain and remember your message.
  • Clarity- As I always say, clarity rules. Infographics help you clearly illustrate your message.
